Survey Reveals Market Demand for New Prefilled Drug Delivery Platform
MedPro Seeks Partnerships to Commercialize New Cartridge Platform, Safety Syringe Systems Company to exhibit its product line at Pharmapack, February 15-16
Lexington, KY – February 13, 2012 – MedPro Safety Products, Inc. (OTCBB: MPSP), a leading developer of transformational technologies that enable safer medication delivery and blood collection, announced the results of a survey of 497 pharmacy professionals conducted at the American Society of Health System Pharmacists Mid-Year Clinical Meeting in December 2011. The survey results suggest that significant interest exists among influential healthcare professionals for a new prefilled drug delivery platform.
The participating pharmacists and pharmacy managers exert a strong influence in their facilities over decisions regarding the packaging configuration of drugs and the utilization of safety products.
Among the survey participants, a single-use, dose-ready pre-filled syringe is the most preferred drug delivery option. But less than one-fourth of the participants are very satisfied with the market-leading syringe system, saying it is hard-to-use, requires multiple parts and steps, and is difficult to understand.
88% prefer to see more drugs packaged in pre-filled cartridges. The drug category pharmacists most prefer to see in prefilled platforms and cartridges is high-risk narcotics. Other categories in the top five include antibiotics, heparin, insulin, and anesthesia.
62% of participants would pay a premium for a pre-filled cartridge with a specific, fixed dose for the patient and fully-passive needlestick safety features for skin injection or IV delivery compatible with all free needle valves.
MedPro is preparing to launch a pre-filled, fully-passive safety syringe and IV shuttle platform and the company is presently seeking partners to assist with commercialization of these products. The company will exhibit its drug delivery platform at PharmaPack, in Paris, France, February 15 – 16, 2012. PharmaPack is the leading European conference and exhibition devoted to drug packaging, technology and delivery systems.
“Our survey results demonstrate dissatisfaction with the leading drug delivery system and a compelling opportunity for a new solution,” said Wm. Craig Turner, Chairman and CEO of MedPro. “As we broaden our scope from safety sharps for phlebotomy to include drug delivery and other devices that enable greater patient safety, we are looking to expand our strategic partnerships with industry leaders to commercialize our robust pipeline. PharmaPack is the biggest show for drug packaging and delivery
and we look forward to meeting with fellow participants and exhibiting our new platform.”
